Why Am I Doing This?

Of course, I have a motive for pursuing this project. Let me state some salient facts that are driving me:

· I am a management consultant (an MBA from UTSA)
· I have been a student of governance and strategy for a good while now
· I believe in the value of a strong board and a healthy balanced board/staff relationship
· I have developed several models for use in board performance, governance and strategy
 
I also believe that there exists a tremendous lack of attention to board performance development in San Antonio (it may be given lip service at best)

I want to change this existing paradigm!

It is my hope that through this one-year effort we can convince the nonprofit community in San Antonio that board performance development is deserving of serious attention. Through this one-year effort I want to:

· Start with some small nonprofits (start-ups would be great) that have a committed Board that will also commit to the requirements of a year-long engagement to improve themselves and the organization (lots of people out there have given up on the idea that a committed board in San Antonio even exists – I have not)
· Prove the value of my models
· Showcase the success stories that can be realized through enhanced board performance development
· Create a challenge to the institutional investors in San Antonio to modify their focus to include serious attention to board performance development
