The Rationale for the Discounted Fee:

As I have stated many times to many people, I believe that nonprofits provide tremendous value to the nonprofit sector and I have always wondered just how much more value they could provide if they would only become much more effective. And a large part of that increased effectiveness can come from stronger boards. I am committed to changing the existing nonprofit board in San Antonio.

But, it is not all altruistic. I have personal reasons for these engagements. These include:

Getting published – there are several areas where I want to devote some time to writing and hopefully getting published (such as the series of articles on The Docile Board). These experiences add to my body of knowledge and makes my efforts more valuable.

Testing my nonprofit management consulting models – I have over the course of several years developed my own models for my work with boards, in formulating strategy, board member recruitment and in fundraising, for example. Each time I put them to use it allows me to refine them for the better.

Positioning (marketing) my firm and building a brand – as a management consultant serving primarily the nonprofit sector it is important that my potential clients know where my efforts are focused and how I approach these areas. I want to use these engagements to position myself in the nonprofit sector and build a brand.

Furthering my own expertise in these areas – as these are areas of critical interest to me, it helps to add to my body of expertise in these areas.

Burnishing my own credentials – obviously these engagements help my marketing and branding efforts by adding credibility to my existing credentials.

Therefore, I am willing to engage in an approximate $15,000 engagement for this heavily discounted fee in return for the opportunity to point to the success stories in these engagements.
